Your Guide to Making the Most Out of RTC Partner Events

Slay Your Next RTC Event

After hosting hundreds of conferences and events, we’ve learned a few things that help improve your event experience. Our team of experts (along with some input from our partners) has compiled a list of best practices to ensure our members are fully prepared for each event.

Please read everything before attending an event. This will help ensure that everything runs smoothly, not just for RTC and our partners but also for you. We want you to have the best experience possible, and these guidelines allow that to happen.

RSVP to an Event

Read all details and requirements for the event and only RSVP if you meet all of the criteria.

  • Review RTC’s Code of Conduct: If you RSVP to attend an in-person or virtual event, you are committing to attend. No-shows reflect poorly on you and the RTC community as a whole.

Remove your RSVP if you can no longer attend.

  • By RSVP’ing to partner events, you agree to the Photography Release Statement.
  • Plan to be on time; give yourself enough time to commute, especially during rush hour.
  • Another Code of Conduct note: Do not share the event RSVP links outside the RTC community.

Prepping for the event

  • Update your teamRTC profile to include your current resume.
  • Add “Rewriting the Code” to your “Club Affiliations” or “Memberships” section in your resume.
  • Add “Rewriting the Code” to your LinkedIn profile (see this mock profile as an example).
  • Is this a virtual event?

Plan to have your camera on, good lighting and a non-distracting background/environment

  • Is this event part of a conference?

Read Part 1 and Part 2 of our “Conference Advice from the Conference Queen” blog.

Watch Dr. Kristin Austin’s video on “Overcoming Discouragement During Conference Season.”

  • Make an announcement on LinkedIn that you’ll be attending, tag RTC, and use relevant event hashtags.

Dressing for the Event

Aim for Business Casual attire:

  • Balance professional and casual.
  • Avoid clothing that’s too revealing (like low-cut tops, mini skirts, and crop tops) and too casual, such as pajamas and gym clothes.
  • Wear something you will be comfortable in!

This guide (and this one) provides helpful examples of business casual attire. Check out this article for a little humor sprinkled in and even more examples to inspire you!

During the Event

  • Review the event description, company page on teamRTC, and the company website; prepare some questions beforehand.
  • Uphold RTC’s Code of Conduct, including demonstrating empathy and kindness towards others and respecting differing opinions, viewpoints, and experiences.

After the Event

Create a communication/follow-up plan for recruiters or company reps that you meet. This could include sending requests on LinkedIn or personalized “thank you” emails a few days later.

And that’s it! That’s all you need to know to make the most of your experience at one of our partner events. If you have questions about the event leading up to it or need help navigating any of the sections above, let us know through Slack or contact us! We’ll do our best to reach back out to you promptly.

Now, go crush it!
