As a Computer Science student at UBC Okanagan, how has your academic journey shaped the way you think about impact beyond the classroom?

My university journey has exposed me to experiential learning, it has allowed me to think outside the theoretical walls and apply the knowledge I am accumulating towards causes I am passionate about. On top of that being surrounded with highly ambitious and like minded students from all around the world has opened my eyes to so many perspectives as well.

You describe yourself as a “changemaker bridging STEM and youth empowerment.” Was there a moment or experience that first made that mission feel personal to you?

My move to Canada from Uganda really opened my eyes and changed how I see this issue. I was constantly amazed by the huge difference between the education and limited chances for young people back home and the ton of support and resources here in Canada. Seeing that comparison totally cemented my life’s goal: to make this journey easier for young folks by using STEM and closing the digital divide.

You’ve talked about helping young people become “labeless.” What labels have you personally had to unlearn or outgrow?

Growing up in a multicultural society like Uganda, with so many preconceived notions like the jobs that girls can have or the way STEM related fields are skewed towards the males or the smarter and unsocial students in school, I want to erase the notion that you have to stick to one thing to be successful, especially now in this evolving world, being multi-passionate is a superpower, and I think we need to help young people embrace it more.

When you imagine the future of education, what’s one change you hope today’s students won’t have to fight for anymore?

My hope is that students never have to struggle for the chance to demonstrate their potential, nor be hindered by societal limitations, insufficient exposure, lack of support, or absence of mentorship.

As someone who bridges cultures, disciplines, and communities, how do you stay grounded in your own sense of identity?

I am a believer, so I ground myself in the presence of divine strength from God. With this I stay reminded that I am called to not just leave a mark in my generation but also to live out the potential I was purposed for fully. I know I have all these experiences and passions at the same time to serve and do good. That grounds me in appreciating and embracing every bit of my life.

When you’re deep in a design or content-creation flow, what’s usually playing in the background?

Lofi music ( specifically The Lofi Girl Youtube channel)
