What makes her awesome

I was born and raised in the Dominican Republic. My family had their own independent business. Therefore, I grew up in a business setting, creating my passion for economics.

Cybersecurity has been my latest passion. I worked my first three school years as a Retail supervisor. I often saw many scammers using people’s information to place orders. I completed my first Capture the Flag last year, and the amount of information I learned opened my curiosity. I ended up enrolling in a dual program that allowed me to complete my BS and MS at the same time. I love to plan and volunteer for events that focus on closing the underrepresented gap in STEM and the gender gap in Cybersecurity. I am currently working at Amtrak as Cybersecurity Intern.

I have a Corgi. His name is Fluffy, in honor of Gabriel Iglesias. Fluffy and I love going on road trips and vibing on the couch.

  • The moment she knew a career in tech was for her

I went to a technical high school in the Dominican Republic where I specialized in computers, and from there, I continued my passion. I chose computer engineering because I was inspired by growing up with limited resources. My family needed to pay in a cyber cafe for us to do homework. Once we had our device, I would try to do the best I could to fix it, and when I noticed I had memorized every piece, I could disassemble it in the building in under 20 minutes.
  • What the RTC community means to her

Rewriting the Code community has given me support, advice, and motivation. My career path has grown a lot since I joined a lot. The RTC team has supported me with advice to guide me in some moments of my life. You gain a fantastic support system with incredible women who understand you and want you to succeed. Sometimes when the impostor syndrome kicks in, and in a single post, multiple women support you and identify with you. Success looks like me having a support system that helps me to continue when I want to quit. Joining the Rewriting the Code community has been the best decision I have ever made.

What I want to solve with technology is closing the gender gap in Cybersecurity. I was the only female in some of my classes, and I would like to inspire others to pursue a career in Cybersecurity + STEM. RTC has given me the platform to express my voice. I also want to educate the low-income community about cyber security, since according to the FBI’s Internet Crime Report 2021, a record 847,376 complaints of cyber-crime.
