How she decided she wanted to pursue a career in tech

My tech journey began not from a passion for computers, but a strong desire to prove myself. When I was studying computer science in my undergrad, I didn’t really connect with the technical side of things. Coding seemed like a superpower that mostly guys had. It all changed when I went to my first hackathon. There, I saw a handful of women in tech, and it was a revelation! I thought to myself, “If they can do it, why can’t I?” That’s when I decided I wanted to be part of this exciting world. With a little push from some tech-savvy friends, I decided to dive in.

I started learning app development with Flutter and dabbled in UI/UX design because, well, I like to keep things lively and try everything! Life took me in a new direction when I moved States for a job that focused on web apps instead of mobile apps. Luckily, they needed someone with UI/UX experience and were happy to help me learn front-end development—even when JavaScript and I had our ups and downs (lol!). My adventure took another turn when I moved to the UK for my master’s in Artificial Intelligence and Data Analytics. This felt like finding the perfect fit, my ‘missing rib’ in tech. It was everything I was looking for. I love how AI and Data Science keep my brain buzzing and challenge me to solve new puzzles every day. My career goals are to make a real impact through innovation and to inspire other women who might be nervous about stepping into tech. I want to show them that it’s not just possible to thrive in this field—it’s incredibly rewarding. Let’s break those barriers and show everyone what we’re capable of!

  • How she is navigating current challenges

One of the significant challenges I’m currently facing is navigating the UK job market as an immigrant with limited experience. I’ve implemented various ways to boost my chances by honing my job application abilities through workshops, putting myself out there to network with professionals and volunteer my expertise at local organisations and internships, which allows me to get UK-relevant experience while also contributing to the community. I also constantly improve my professional abilities through online courses and certifications to stay competitive and demonstrate to potential employers my dedication to professional development.
  • What the RTC community means to her

I joined Rewriting the Code because I was searching for a community where I could connect with like-minded women who are equally passionate about technology. Being in a male-dominated field can sometimes feel isolating, and I wanted a space where I could share my experiences, challenges, and victories with peers who understand and support one another’s journeys in tech. Since becoming a part of RTC, the support I’ve received has been truly transformative. I’ve had the chance to meet incredible mentors and peers who have provided both guidance and friendship. Their advice has been pivotal in helping me make confident decisions in my career, and the emotional support they offer is just as valuable.

My career goals are to make a real impact through innovation and to inspire other women who might be nervous about stepping into tech. I want to show them that it’s not just possible to thrive in this field—it’s incredibly rewarding. Let’s break those barriers and show everyone what we’re capable of!
