How she decided she wanted to pursue a career in tech

I normally say to people that tech came to me. But it has become a means for me to think that I can make a footprint in the sands of time. I first saw a computer(the mainframe version) when my father bought one, and my sister and I were allowed to use it. Also, for some reason, I had an inclination toward quantitative reasoning as a child. Together with my sister, we did a lot of number sorts…figuring out what goes into each missing box. Perhaps that is why I grew to have a thing for Mathematics and Physics. I studied Engineering for my first degree, but the first time I heard about Python programming language was through my dad. I built a little period calculator that I never spoke about.I had gone further to learn Python programming language just because my dad knew it( we have this point we always want to prove to our dad…lol). As an undergraduate student, I wanted to build an online platform called Agrommerce to solve the food scarcity problem in Nigeria. I joined Roar Nigeria hub where I also learnt other programming languages and together with my team built this solution. Tech, for me, is my escape place, the only thing that helps me feel that I can do things and help in the world to make it a better place.

I have since then volunteered to teach the younger ones and also contribute as a Google Women Tech Makers as an Ambassador. The changes and opportunities technology provides is very much needed especially in developing countries. I had my master’s degree in Engineering Management and now getting my PhD in AI for workplace productivity. This is also another way for me to make changes and make the world a better place by looking for ways of improving the work. Whenever I have a purpose attached to something, I tend to give it my best, and that is what I use tech for. I find a problem and use tech to solve it, the bottom-down approach. I am now constantly reading and researching how to make work beneficial for people, and I enjoy every single bit of it.

  • How she is navigating current challenges

I am currently navigating time management. I have a lot of conference, meetings and sorts to attend as my research requires the knowledge of current trends in the workplace. I am trying to prioritise using my weekdays fiercely and resting on the weekends to avoid getting sick. I am also doing a lot of “Siri can you add this to my reminder “ too. I guess I am talking about productivity tools now.
  • What the RTC community means to her

I spoke at the WTM International Women’s Day in Scotland in March, where I met the RTC UK team. That was when I decided to join!
