One of the most significant aspects of RTC for me was my involvement in the Black Wings Events Committee, where I had the privilege to plan and organize community events specifically tailored to support people of color in RTC. Collaborating with like-minded individuals to create a welcoming and inclusive space for underrepresented individuals was both rewarding and inspiring. These events fostered a sense of belonging, provided mentorship opportunities, and allowed us to share experiences, challenges, and triumphs unique to our community.

I’ve met some of my absolute favorite people through RTC! As a Latina in STEM, it’s rare to see myself reflected in the workforce, but RTC has given me a community that truly inspires and uplifts me. Representation matters, and having friends who understand your journey makes all the difference. To me, success means thriving in tech while staying true to who I am—and RTC makes that possible!

Through RTC and Tech Natives, I’ve had the amazing opportunity to travel to conferences, meet potential employers, and expand my network. It’s been amazing to have a platform and space to speak on issues I’m passionate about and continue connecting with other Indigenous women in tech.

FAQ
Who can join these communities?
Each racially-affirming group centers the voice and lived experience of Black Wings, which is for Black women in tech, Latinas de RTC, which is for Latina/Hispanic women in tech, and Tech Natives, which is for Native American and Indigenous women in tech.
How much time do I need to commit?
You control your engagement level. Our Slack channels are active daily, but members participate when it works for them, whether that’s joining monthly virtual check-ins, attending local meetups, or connecting during culturally-focused events.
What kind of support will I receive?
Each community provides technical mentorship, career guidance, and cultural celebration. You’ll connect with peers and mentors who share both your technical interests and lived experience, whether you’re exploring AI, cybersecurity, or other emerging technologies.
How do racially-affirming groups complement RTC membership?
While RTC connects you with the broader community of women in tech, racially-affirming groups provide focused support from members who share your cultural background. You’ll get all the benefits of RTC plus programming specifically designed for your cultural needs and experiences.
Do I need to be in a specific location?
No. While we host in-person gatherings in major tech hubs, most of our programming is virtual and accessible from anywhere. You’ll connect with members globally through virtual workshops, monthly events, and our active Slack communities.
What if I’m just starting my tech journey?
Perfect timing! Many members join early in their tech careers. You’ll find peers at similar stages and mentors who remember what it’s like to be new to tech. Our communities support members at all experience levels.
Is there an additional cost?
No. Culturally-affirming group membership is included with your free RTC membership.
How do I get started?
