Why do you want to enter tech?

I am choosing a career technology because it’s an interesting field that is continuously changing and has the potential to create real impacts. Technology is at the centre of so many innovations, from improving healthcare services to forming innovations in space exploration and sustainability. Being able to solve hard problems, collaborate with others, and assist in making history with new, adapting technologies is highly inspiring to me. To this, technology offers opportunities to work on a global scale, impacting the lives of people in ways that are profound and long term.

What types of problems do you want to solve with technology?

I want to use technology to solve problems with a significant and sustainable impact on society. Among them, what excites me the most is medicine. Technology has transformed medicine already in amazing ways, and I believe there’s still enormous potential to improve patient outcomes and access. Innovations like diagnostics assisted by artificial intelligence, personalised medicine, and telehealth can help expand better care to particularly underserved areas. I would want to move towards solutions that not only save lives but also make healthcare more efficient and accessible to people around the world. Another exciting area is space exploration. Technology is at the front of advancing our understanding of the universe. I’m fascinated by the ability to better understand our own planet, and even develop technologies that can help sustain life in space. The challenges of space exploration push the boundaries of science and engineering in ways that can lead to breakthroughs applicable to life here on Earth, from advanced materials to better environmental technologies.

Favorite class and/or teacher and why?

My current favourite class is CS-256 Visual Computing, in which we’re working with 3D data sets like CT scans to visualise and analyse different areas of the human head. We use techniques like maximum intensity projection to highlight important data, while applying indirect illumination, ambient reflection, and Lambertian and diffuse reflections to simulate real light and surface interactions. These concepts make the data easier to understand and more visually appealing, allowing us to see complex structures in a manner not accessible with traditional 2D imaging. The reason why I like this class is the intersection of physics and technology. Through the application of concepts like specular reflection and the Phong model, we simulate the behaviour of light on different surfaces, which ultimately controls how we perceive 3D structures. This connection of computer science and physics in the context of medical imaging tests my problem-solving abilities while demonstrating how technology can render complicated data into proper uses in the real world.

Describe yourself outside of tech!

I am a big fan of football and have supported Chelsea FC since I was young. I love animals and have a cat called Casper. I enjoy reading astrophysics in my free time and understanding theoretical physics.

What does being a part of RTC mean to you? Any key memories?

To me, being a part of RTC is sharing time with a community of women who inspire, motivate, and encourage one another. It’s a group where we are able to connect with, learn from what each of us have gone through, and gain insight that results in personal as well as professional growth. One of the most significant experiences I recall was when I got two internship offers, but I was not sure which one would be best for my professional development. I looked for advice from RTC, and through discussion with other members, I got valuable input and a new perspective that helped me make a clear choice.
