Why do you want to enter tech?

To make a difference between underrepresented communities and make technology accessible and fair.

What types of problems do you want to solve with technology?

Accessibility and inclusion for minority communities- whether it’s making sure ethics are being followed when launching a new tool for people to use in their day to day as well as making it fair for people from all communities to be able to use it easily.

Favorite class and/or teacher and why?

User Interface Development, because the class was split into 50/50 talking about how to program an application or website but also spend the same amount of time highlighting the important of how the design of something can heavily impact how someone uses it. This was one of the classes that shifted my focus from just wanting to program projects but also focus on the outside view as a user and think about the ideation process more.

Describe yourself outside of tech!

After classes, I love hitting the campus gym for a cycling session because it helps me unwind and feel productive after sitting through hours of lectures and discussions.

I’ve always loved cooking since I was little, but it can be tough to keep up with it regularly in college when I’m overwhelmed with classes, clubs, and everything else. Still, I try my best to prioritize it, even if it’s just making something small like an appetizer — guacamole is my favorite!

I’ve always loved plants and gardening. Growing up, I would plant flowers and herbs with my dad every spring. Now in college, I finally have a balcony, and I’ve been building a small garden of my own. It’s one of my favorite hobbies — I love watching the plants bloom, and it ties into my love for cooking since cilantro (one of the main plants I grow) is a staple in so many dishes I make!

What does being a part of RTC mean to you? Any key memories?

RTC to me is a community of support that I will always be grateful to have. It’s a group of people who may not know each other but are still your biggest supporters. This played a huge role when I was a Summer Hub leader and I got to meet new people at every event and was able to have an instant connection!
