Welcome to Rewriting the Code! We’re so excited you’ve decided to join us. You probably have some questions about what to expect and how to make the most of your experience, but don’t worry; we’ve got you covered.
What can I get out of RTC?
RTC exposes you to a vast network of over 34,000 members, as well as our partner organizations and working professionals. You’ll also have access to internships, new grad, and early career opportunities from companies that prioritize meeting candidates from RTC. Many RTC members have found successful internships and jobs through our annual events, like VCS, UK&ICS, Unite & Ignite, TechConnect, and our community platform teamRTC!
Does RTC ever host in-person events?
Yes! We would love to meet you in person (even though we do host a lot of virtual events). One of our busiest times of the year is during the summer when we host our Summer Hub events. We partner with companies to host events, throw our own networking parties, and our Summer Hub leaders put on small gatherings nearly every week, depending on what city you’re in!
We also host exclusive, special events at conferences like the Grace Hopper Conference, sometimes with partner companies, and periodically outside conference season.
For our Early Career Members, we have in-person events surrounding our Unite & Ignite Summit and Early Career Tech Hubs, which makes meeting people when you’ve moved to a new city so much easier.
How can I get involved with the RTC community?
We have a few ways of interacting with our community!
Slack is your home for networking, socializing, hearing about events, asking questions, and more. teamRTC is our platform for registering for events, signing up for mentoring sessions, and applying to jobs! Utilizing these two platforms will fundamentally change your RTC experience. We also send out emails and newsletters with everything that’s happening around RTC, so even if you aren’t regularly checking those two platforms, we try to make sure you don’t miss too much.
Another way to get involved is through RTC Gather. RTC Gather is an opportunity for our members to host events in their area! Even if you aren’t in a Hub city, you’re able to submit event requests to meet more RTC members in your area!
How can I get involved as a leader with RTC?
RTC has always kept our members at the center of everything we do. Our member leaders are the heartbeat of our organization and play an instrumental role in keeping us moving in the right direction.
How can I give back to the RTC Community?
Become an RTC Mentor to share your experiences and provide mentorship to fellow members! Interested in volunteering? Sign up in teamRTC! You can also join the RTC Slack, where we discuss topics such as getting internships at different companies and how to prepare for a career in tech.
We also invite our early career members to submit our speaker form! You can submit a proposal to talk about relevant topics with our community.
Where can I find events?
teamRTC is the go-to place for all things RTC. On teamRTC, you can navigate to the “Events” tab, which allows you to view all the upcoming and past RTC events. You can also filter by a variety of criteria. If you ever miss an event, chances are it was recorded! So, you can navigate to the “Resources” tab, which has folders for different categories. Within these folders are recordings of past events, slide decks related to those events, and more!
We understand that you’re busy! We also send newsletters about our events and announce them on our Slack channels.
Is there financial support available for low-income students?
Yes! RTC partnered with the Last Mile Fund to create the RTC Future of Tech Fund, which assists RTC members facing financial obstacles. Please keep in mind that you must have been an RTC member for at least six months when applying.
We also offer conference scholarship grants. We believe you deserve every opportunity to grow and connect with other people in tech. This is our way of helping you experience the magic of attending a conference, minus the financial barrier.
